European Economic Panel is an initiative established by the Polish Economic Institute (PEI) and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW Kiel). Our aim is to gather top leading economists from the academia, think-tanks and the business sector to discuss about issues relevant for the European Union policy. We attempt to strengthen the economic debate within the EU with emphasis put on current challenges and dilemmas.

Our goal is to ensure full pluralism of opinions and representativeness all of EU member states. In order to meet this objective we invite a wide number of economists with diversified background and experiences. Currently, our panelists include professors from Europe’s top universities, representatives of major think tanks and third sector organizations, economists from major commercial banks and former members of the monetary authority. We intend to further expand their number in the coming months.

The panel is conducted on a monthly basis. Our panelists each month are asked 3-5 questions concerning a current economic issue regarding for example future fiscal policy in the EU, monetary policy outlook. Opinions are expressed on a five-point scale ranging from “strongly disagree” to “strongly agree”. Additionally, they are given space to further expand on the topic by writing a short commentary.
